Rick is a versatile artist that enjoys doing all genres of tattooing, especially black and grey realism with an illustrative twist. Rick has been tattooing just short of 2 decades living all around the United States including places like Oahu and Maui (HI) , Los Angeles CA, Medford OR, Philadelphia PA, and Burlington VT.
Rick was the previous owner of : WE THE PEOPLE TATTOO PARLOR
here in Burlington ,VT.
In 2019 he closed up shop to relocate to the island of Maui but after a year in the Aloha state Rick was drawn back to the Green Mt. state.
On January 1st of 2021 Rick partnered up with tattoo artist Johnny Smith (previous owner of SWEETWATER COLLECTIVE) out of Oregon and opened up S UGARWOOD TATTOO CO. which is located at 199 College St. Burlington VT 05401 ( next to Finnegans Pub).
If you are interested in setting up an appointment, Rick would be more than happy to help you with your tattoo ideas. Whether its a small or large tattoo Rick will go over size, placement, color theory and what is the best design for the longevity of your tattoo.

Tattoo Bio:
- The styles I am inherently drawn to are ornamental designs and elaborate geometric patterns. I enjoy using shapes, angles, line work and pointillism to create unique, decorative and symbolic pieces that occupy spiritual space on my client’s bodies. I gain inspiration from traditional textile patterns, embroidery, and architecture found throughout Southeast Asia.
- I strive to incorporate a combination of Japanese influenced brushwork, black letter calligraphy, greyscale textures and neotraditional florals in my projects. Finding balance between abstraction and symmetry, I hope to create collage-like compositions that are inspired by the past and built for the future.
- I am drawn to tattooing because it is one of the oldest and most sacred forms of artwork for cultures all over the world. I feel honored to be able to work with clients on a unique and mutually appreciated design, with an end goal of assisting them feel more comfortable in their self expression and more confident in their body.
